What is the EU AI Act?

The AI Act is a European regulation on artificial intelligence (AI) – the first comprehensive regulation on AI by a major regulator anywhere. On 1 August 2024, the European Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) enters into force. The Act aims to foster responsible artificial intelligence development and deployment in the EU.

The AI Act directly affects businesses operating within the EU, whether they are providers (i.e. those developing the systems), users (referred to as “deployers”), importers, distributors, or manufacturers of AI systems.
